Research Interest My research integrates population genetic and phylogeographic approaches to understanding the evolutionary mechanisms that have molded bird diversity in Borneo. I use molecular genetics and morphometrics to tackle problems of geographic variation, gene flow and taxonomic status of certain avian species.
I would like to major in molecular systematics and ornithology, for my PhD. At present, I enroll as a graduate student at the Department of Biological Sciences, Louisiana State Univeristy (LSU), Baton Rouge, USA. As for my PhD project, I am interested to study the genetic and ecologic relationships of selected birds that are widely distributed in the mountains in Borneo. The collective patterns of those montane species should shed substantial light on the historical relationships among isolated mountains and their populations, which in turn will clarify the forces responsible for diversification of montane species in Borneo. The information, given from this research, would not only provide insight to the process of diversification on Borneo, but would be of great help in planning conservation and management strategies for montane as well as lowland species. |
