Research Interest:
My research focuses on the ecology of seagrass habitats, especially the seasonality in their growth and production rates, and nutrient status. I am also interested on the application of a remote sensing technique in mapping for change detection of these habitats. In conjunction with University of Otago, I have recently completed an ecological study and mapping of a seagrass Zostera novazelandica found in Otago Harbour, Southern New Zealand. Currently, we are working to map tropical seagrass meadows in Sapangar Bay, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, using a remotely sensed data from SPOT4 satellite image in combination with ground truthing. We are also assessing the response of some seagrass species in these habitats to sediment pore-water N concentration by using a manipulative N-enrichment experiment in attempt to determine their nutrient status.
