My research interest is in the area of forest management planning involving the indigenous and planted forests as well as urban forests.

My early research was on the planning timber production from the indigenous forests of Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah, and the distribution of the timber to processing mills. It included the use of computer techniques such as linear planning, simulation as well as network analysis. My interest shifted to planted forests after learning of the target of the Sarawak government to plant one million ha of forest plantations by 2020, to augment the decreasing timber production from the indigenous forests. Another area of interest is the management of urban forests, in line with the government plan to develop Malaysia into a garden nation.
