Research activities
My research interests are in molecular genetics and plant transformation.

Plant Molecular Genetics – Main study of our research group is the transcriptomics of plants such as Metroxylon sagu (sago palm), Morinda citrifolia, Orthosiphon aristatus and Piper spp. Our research group interest includes the control of starch biosynthesis, factors involved in flowering process and waterlogging tolerance of sago palm. We are currently analysing several tissue-specific transcriptome database of sago palm.

Our group is also involved in expression and regulatory study of various stress responses and plant defense against pathogens. Several candidates genes such as the alcohol dehydrogenase, isochorismate synthase and chitinase, are currently being studied by the research group members. Research activities includes the isolation of genes from selected plant models, characterisation of genes and its protein via transient expression using prokaryote and eukaryote models.

Plant Transformation – Another research interest is in establishing the transformation protocol for several plants, including sago palm and Morinda citrifolia, and transient expression of transgenes to look at integration and expression of foreign genes into plants.
