Research activities
Carbon Sequestration of Urban Trees, Biomonitoring of Urban Trees and Spectral Database of Mixed Dipterocarp Forests in Sarawak are currently my research interests. My main focus is on the species selections or plant traits essential for biomonitoring of urban habitat quality. Urban trees naturally cleanse the atmosphere by absorbing gases and some particulate matter through leaves which function as an efficient pollutant-trapping device. Sensitive tree species are considered as bio-indicators and the levels of pollutant tolerance vary from species to species depending on the capacity of trees to withstand the effect of pollutants without showing external damage. Very little research has been done to determine the air pollution tolerance of tropical tree species or as bioindicator of urban habitat. The aboveground and carbon sequestration and Spectral Database of Mixed Dipterocarp Forests in Sarawak projects are currently ongoing.
